This article is an in-depth guide of how a fleet admin will assign the KeepTruckin Vehicle Gateway to the vehicle on their Fleet Admin Dashboard as well as step-by-step instructions on how the Vehicle Gateway will be installed in the vehicle before the driver can connect to it.
A KeepTruckin Vehicle Gateway must be assigned and installed in the vehicle before it can be used by the drivers. Only Fleet Admins can assign the Vehicle Gateways. To learn how to do this, follow the step-by-step guide below:
Install the KeepTruckin Vehicle Gateway in the vehicle with the engine off, locate the diagnostic port inside the vehicle.
Attach the cable to the vehicle’s diagnostic port, see the three port examples shown below.
For 6-pin and 9-pin ports, ensure the cable is secured by turning the collar clockwise to lock it in place.
Attach the other side of the cable to the KeepTruckin Vehicle Gateway. Screw down the thumbscrews on the 15-pin connector to secure the cable to the Vehicle Gateway.
Once plugged in, the indicator lights will flash momentarily before turning solid red. After approximately one minute, the left-side indicator light will turn green, indicating a successful GPS connection. If this does not occur, try moving the Vehicle Gateway to increase exposure to the sky.
Choose a spot on the top of the dashboard to mount the Vehicle Gateway. The mounting spot should be near the windshield, but away from any vents or electrical components that may cause interference.
Note: Before you mount the Vehicle Gateway, use the provided alcohol swab to clean the mounting area. Remove the backing from the adhesive strip and mount the Vehicle Gateway to the cleaned area.
Once the Vehicle Gateway is installed, visit the KeepTruckin Fleet Manager Dashboard and click on the 'Admin' tab.
Select the 'Vehicles' tab on the left-hand menu.
If you have previously added vehicles for your company, you may click ‘Options’ and then ‘Edit Vehicle’.
In the vehicle profile under Vehicle Gateway Assignment, Click .
Choose which Vehicle Gateway you want to assign to the vehicle. Each Vehicle Gateway has a unique serial number printed on the bottom of the device under the barcode.
Select the correct Vehicle Gateway and click 'Assign'. You can also enter the serial number into the ‘Search Vehicle Gateway S/N’ field to narrow your search.
Select to finish.
Now, you just need to enable your driver for ELD Compliance mode and they are ready to connect their mobile device to the Vehicle Gateway.
